FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PTO?

PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. A PTO is a nonprofit public benefit organization comprised of parents, teachers, and staff. Its purpose is to enrich the educational experience of all students.

A board of directors is the governing body of any nonprofit. Board members are responsible for overseeing the organization's activities. They meet periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the PTO. Double Peak PTO members are nonpaid volunteers that are elected annually.

What does the PTO do for Double Peak School?

We operate to support educational programs and activities at Double Peak School (DPS) not covered by district funds.

How does the PTO support programs and activities at DPS?

Through fundraisers and donations. Fundraising is both active and passive. Fund the Suns and APEX  Run are our biggest fundraisers. Passive fundraising includes AmazonSmile, BoxTops, etc. Your participation is vital to generate the funds necessary to support programs and activities at DPS.

How can I join the PTO?

If you are a parent or a guardian of a student attending DPS you are automatically a member. If you would like to join the Board of Directors sign-up during election time. The PTO Board of Directors volunteer in a number of different roles (i.e.: fundraising, activities, and more as outlined here). Where needed sub-committees are created and there is a place for everyone to be involved.

When do you meet?

PTO meetings are usually scheduled on the first week of each month when school is in session. Check our events calendar for specifics.

What happens at a PTO meeting?

For each meeting, there is a set agenda and each officer gives a report of their chair. There is also a teacher and principal report. At the end of the meeting, there is time allotted for new items to discuss.

Why should I attend PTO meetings?

  • To benefit your child. Research studies show that when parents get involved, children do better in school.

  • To stay informed of what is happening at DPS.

  • Get connected and meet other parents!

  • Have a voice. PTO offers a time for exchanging ideas as well as making suggestions for change.

  • For your own health. Research shows that there are mental and physical benefits of volunteering.

I can't attend PTO meetings but I want to be involved, how can I help?

Join a PTO subcommittee, sign-up to be a PTO room parent at the beginning of the year, volunteer your time or talents during PTO sponsored events. Contact us and let us know if you are interested in volunteering for a specific event. Otherwise, be on the lookout for our correspondence requesting volunteers.
